rooftop

this was taken at sunset from the rooftop of the long wharf inn, in newport, ri.
image was stitched from nine 8mp jpegs with PTGui Pro, a commercial panoramic software package. basically you take your individual photos, and load them into the software. the software attempts to locate “key points” which are visible in more than one shot, and uses those points to transform and merge the individual photos together into one large one.
slight levels adjustment in PS post processing.

Who’s that fucking guy standing there?
Have you taken a gay lover?
Not that I mind. I’m just asking.
i dunno. i think i scared him off though, because by the time i turned back around he was gone.
you don’t mind if i have a gay lover?
Awesome! Totally awesome! I like the dude standing there! And I like the seagull and overturned chair near the flagpole. And the sun peeking over the bridge.
Around the center of the picture, the ropes around the roof seem to disappear and, at about the point where that happens, there is a faint blurry seam in the water. Aside from that one indication, I would have sworn that you really had a pivoting camera.
I love the flags. There are a lot of indicators of wind direction in the panorama, but the flags are the most obvious. And they all seem to go in appropriate directions considering the 360° pivot.
Pretty goddamn awesome work if you ask me.
