yes, for the most part, the filthy mirror is adding a bit of out of focus haze to the pic. you can thank charlotte for that one. i believe kristen told me it was crayon. lol!
What is so funny about this picture is that when he flips the image to be right side around instead of in a mirror, he looks slightly amused instead of serious.
Totally nuts. We were talking about that last night. I thought you were going to post them together Ken.
Wait. That wasn’t last night was it? We were busy doing other stuff.
😉
I love this picture though it puzzles me. I have pondered it a great deal and I’m still not quite sure what to make of it. I think the ambiguous expression is part of it, but there is much more and I can’t quite get it all. The pale intensity of your hands, maybe against the red subsurface scattering in your ears, and maybe again versus your relaxed facial expression, keeps and holds my attention. The angle of the shot? The perspective says the mirror had to be tilted upward ever so slightly though the camera and your glasses are dead on. The texturing of the walls, which may actually merely be artifacts from the mirror? And light seems to come from everywhere! It’s behind you according to the reflections on the bannister (those stairs and bannister are beautiful, BTW) and on the light switch, but it’s coming from in front of you according to the light on the steps themselves. Is it reflecting off the mirror? Anyway, this is a stunning photograph that I have stared at for hours and not figured out at all. In my humble opinion, it is about as richly artistic as color photography ever gets when capturing real life.
I wonder if that’s because we, as Westerners, read left-to-right. You can clearly see that Ken’s expression isn’t symmetrical and so I have a sneaking suspicion that flipping the image you’d “read” that raised eyebrow and slightly upturned corner of the mouth first, which might register as amusement.
