Love the ski lift picture. It puts the whole weekend in perspective.

Have you noticed how fucking cute our daughter is?

You could never catch me skiing with my camera, it’s too precious and I have far too little faith in my skiing abilities.

How the hell did you take that first picture? I at first assumed that the camera was on the hood of the car, since the sky is visible at the top edges and your parking sticker is fully legible. But the motion blur of the trees on the side along with the fact that Girlfriend is actually reading a book indicates that the picture isn’t posed while you are stationary. Did you use a fisheye? Awesome picture, by the way, and you all look great.

I assume you used the same lens for the second picture, and that explains the trees bowing in toward the center? Beautiful.

I love the third pic. It almost looks like you had to photoshop in the people because the perspectives seem so dramatic while the background is so subtle and quiet.

Girlfriend is amazingly cute, and I love that vest in the fourth pic.

Are you wearing the same skis in the last pic as in the third? In any case, awesome. Perfectly framed. The hues hint at a dramatic sunset while the shadows move and dance. Really incredible shot.

it was raining pretty hard at that time… you can see a couple of water spots on the lens. charlotte confessed that riding the lift was one of her favorite parts of the experience.

    obviously she takes after me.

this was the first time i’ve been skiing without poles. it wasn’t nearly as difficult as i had thought it would be. in fact, it was liberating.

you just need more practice skiing, and next time buy your camera used. 🙂

the first pic is indeed an ultra wide angle, a tokina 11-16mm, zoomed out to 11mm. it was simply placed on the dashboard and i triggered the self-timer. we were traveling north on rt. 95, going about 80mph. however, it’s technically not a fisheye, but rather a rectilinear lens.

the second picture was actually a different lens.. my trusty old tamron 17-50, at the 17mm end. the trees do bow in a bit but that’s mainly because of the angle of the camera causing a lot of keystoning.

i’m wearing the same skis. it was sunset. to get the shutter speed down to where i could generate some motion blur i had to use a very small aperture, and that made the dust on my very dirty sensor pop out like a sore thumb. you should have seen the un-retouched version… it was fucking tragic.
